Up for your consideration is a fascinating vintage swim suit probably from the late 40's or very early 50's. Talk about a simply stunning swim suit with so many possibilities! Fitted boned bodice, with attachable straps to go around the neck, which means this can be worn strapless if desired. Accented with a ruffle along the top and bottom edge. Skirted with three Big black buttons on each side of the legs. Fully lined. Zips with old talon metal zipper in the back, with two hidden buttons. This is a stretchy suit, and the bust will stretch to a 36. Talk about Hollywood Movie Glam, read the similarities, of this bathing suit and the Barbie #1 swim suit edition and Katharine Hepburn. What a chance to won a stunning swim suit! Please note there is a 1/2" hole INSIDE on the lining, see pictures.

Let's talk about the designer, Tom Brigance, "Despite the fact that while fighting in World War II 9he was decorated for bravery for his work in the Counter Intelligence Service) he was necessarily absent from the New York designing world from 1942 to 1947, still managed to make quite an impact during the 1940's with his innovative sportswear designs……He used interesting prints, such as those designed by the French artist Marcel Vertes for 1942 bathing suits. In the New Yorker's issue of January 11,1947, Lois Long wrote, "It Is evident that all those years in uniform did nothing to quench the spirit of Mr. Brigance." During the 1950's Brigance, who won the Coty in 1953, was exclusive designer at Frank Gallant, although he designed for Fonde, Sportsmaker, Sinclair and Gabar. His bathing suits, which might be made from cotton velveteen, damask, pique, or wool jersey, often had bloomer bottoms and strapless, halter, or one-shouldered bodices. At a time when patterned fabrics tended toward the misty and romantic, Brigance found and made use of bold, bright, crisp designs that looked forward to the 1960s." from the New York Fashion by Caroline Rennolds Milbank.
