Vintage designer clothing is something to be grasped. Literally! Designer labels from the early 40's and 50's are getting harder to find in fantastic condition. Especially in a wearable size. You can drive for miles and search vintage clothing stores, boutiques and the like and never run across designer labels.
Sydney of Sydney's Vintage Clothing hand picks ALL of her inventory. I am the buyer, owner of the company. I take pride in selecting vintage to fulfill your wardrobe. In this section of my store I want to highlight some of the designer labels. You will find highlights of the designer, certainly not all of the history of each designer. The following are not in a "certain" order. Just samples of what you can find in my online store.
1) Lilli Ann - Lilli Ann of San Francisco was founded around 1933, by Adolf Schuman. Often designing spectacular suits, and also known for their coats. Sculptered and very femine. Here are some examples: Lilli Ann.
2) Ceil Chapman - Ceil Chapman began a ready-to wear business in 1940. Known to be one of Marilyn Monroe's favorite designers. Often recognized for the draping on the bustline of her formal dresses. Ceil Chapman.
The following is one that might possibly be an unlabeled Ceil.
3) Anne Fogarty - Earned a Coty Award in 1951 while at the Margot Dress Company. Known for her paper doll silhouette. Some examples of Anne Fogarty.
4) Suzy Perette - The VFG described the label as follows, "Not an actual person but the name of a dress manufacturing company that made affordable versions of Parisian designs in the 1950s. The Suzy Perette silhouette of cinched waist and full skirt were extremely popular and a quality interpretation of Dior's famous “"New Look." Fabulous examples of her work.
5) Gloria Swanson - Forever Young, the VFG , proclaims, "Even though she was past 50, she was known to go backstage during show intermissions to stand on her head!" Wow, that is an unusual marketing techinique! 40's 50's example of Gloria Swanson.
